Description of the A.E.I.P Bursary:
The MAVLI bursary is one way for MAVLI to show our continued support to ASL-English Interpretation students in the province of Manitoba.
The bursary has been modified to reflect the AEIP program becoming a three-year joint program between Red River College and the University of Manitoba and the addition of the Deaf Studies Program. The MAVLI bursary amount will be in the range of $200 to $500, normally awarded annually, but dependent on sufficient funds as determined by the MAVLI board. If funds are insufficient in a given year, MAVLI holds the right to suspend awarding the bursary for that year.
The applications will be reviewed by a MAVLI Bursary Committee of at least 3 members, each holding one vote. AEIP students may apply for the bursary in as many years as they qualify, but an AEIP student may only receive the bursary once. The award will be granted based on GPA (combined from both Red River College and the University of Manitoba) for the year of application and demonstrated community activity, weighted equally. Students may not apply at the end of their DSP year to receive the bursary in their first AEIP year.
To qualify at the time of application the student must:
A) Be a member of MAVLI
B) Be a full-time student in either their first or second year of the AEIP, or part-time student who intends to register for at least one further year of studies.
C) Applicants must be enrolled in at least six credit hours of course work per semester of the year in which they apply, and enrol in at least six credit hours of course work per semester of the year in which they receive the bursary.
To apply for the 2013-2014 school year, applications must be received by June 30, 2013. Your application must include the following:
· proof of membership to MAVLI (a photocopy of your membership card or receipt)
· transcripts for Red River College and the University of Manitoba showing the most up to date courses taken
· letters or references to attest to your involvement in any or all of the following; MAVLI, interpreting community, Deaf community, and the community at large.
The successful candidate will be notified in the fall. He or she will then be expected to provide proof of paid tuition and enrolment in at least six credit hours of course work per semester. If you have any further questions please contact the Public Relations Chairperson. (see The Board)
