MAVLI EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Terms of Reference
Purpose:
To promote a forum
for discussion and exchange of information and ideas related
to interpreters working in the Kindergarten to Grade 12
Educational Setting.
Role:
* To increase awareness
of issues impacting interpreters in this setting
* To support ongoing
activities of the individuals working for the Department
of Education in the Educational Interpreting Consultant
and MECY Outreach positions
* To support the
ongoing implementation of the "Professional Standards
and Role Guidelines for American Sign Language - English
Interpreters in Educational Settings" also known
as the "MAVLI Education Document"
Membership Structure:
The MAVLI Education
Committee will consist of persons who have a sincere and
vested interest in interpreters working in an integrated
setting and the services they provide.
Representatives
may include all or some of the following groups:
* MAVLI
* MDA
* SMD
* ECCOE
* Teachers working in integrated settings
* Parents of d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing students
* Graduates from integrated settings
* Members of the Deaf Community
Membership Expectations:
* To support the
purpose and role of the committee as outlined in the Terms
of Reference
* To attend regular
meetings and additional special meetings as scheduled
* To carry out actions
delegated by the committee in a timely manner
Terms of Office:
The length of office
for the MAVLI Education Committee Chairperson(s) will
be determined by the membership of the committee. A two-year
term is recommended.
Accountability:
The MAVLI Education
Committee will liaise, report and make any recommendations
to MAVLI, the Department of Education and the Minister
of Education as necessary.
